Cosmo Pharmaceuticals S.p.A. (“Cosmo”) announced today the successful conclusion of its proof of concept trial of its new chemical entity cortexolone 17alpha-propionate (CB-03-01) for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia. The study results show that CB-03-01, applied to the scalp through iontophoresis, was more effective than cyproterone-acetate and 17alpha-estradiol in the improvement of the follicular density, the hair shaft diameter, the pull test, and in reducing sebaceous gland size and, as a consequence, sebum production.

The study evaluated the efficacy of CB-03-01 in 40 men with androgenetic alopecia grade 1-4 according to the Hamilton scale, and in 30 post-menopausal women with androgenetic alopecia grade 1 according to the Ludwig scale. Prior to treatment, follicle density, hair thickness, a pull test, and sebum production were measured. All subjects were then given 5 treatments (in sessions once or twice a week) of either 1% CB-03-01, 5% CB-03-01, 1% ciproterone-acetate or 1% 17alpha-estradiol. Each volunteer was then re-analyzed one week and one month after the last treatment. The design of the next clinical phase is planned within the year end.

Αυτό που βλέπουμε σε αυτήν την εικόνα, είναι ότι ακόμη και η 1% ποσότητα, έχει διαφορά από την οιστραδιόλη, οπότε συμφέρει από άποψη κόστους/sides.

Θα ήθελα να τονίσω εδώ, οτι οι έρευνες της cosmo είτε για την τριχόπτωση είτε για την ακμη αν δεν κάνω λάθος είναι ιδιωτικές έρευνες και όχι έρευνες που έχουν σκοπό την έγκριση του fda. Γι'αυτο δυστυχώς να κυκλοφορίσει κάτι εμπορικά τα επόμενα χρόνια είναι λίγο δύσκολο.

ΕΚΤΟΣ και αν καταφέρουν και μπορούν να το δηλώσουν καλλυντικό προϊόν που τουλαχιστον στην ευρώπη κατι για να θεωρηθεί καλλυντικό δεν πρέπει να έχει καμμιά παρενέργεια.

During the study, no concerns were raised regarding the
local and systemic safety of CB-03-01. Worthy of interest is
the better tolerability of CB-03-01 as compared with tretinoin,
already evident at visit 1. This is of practical importance considering
that one of the main concerns in using topical retinoids
is the appearance of skin irritation in the first weeks of
treatment, frequently leading to discontinuation or reduction
of the number of applications. No serious AEs were detected
through the study, no drop-outs occurred for safety reasons,
and no differences among the groups were noticed concerning
the nature and the incidence of AEs.
